Ari and Burcu, who is from Turkey, met online while they were living in Florida. You can tell from the photo where things were headed.

Happiness turned to love.

They are now a married couple and our family is complete.

A family photo taken on my 80th Birthday and given to Blanche on her 80th in a huge frame that now centers our Red Hook home. Arriving at this moment feels blessed.

I keep two teddy bears together on our sunroom couch. They are stand-ins for me and Blanche. I never let them drift apart. They are always touching, always embracing, always grateful for each other.

I took this photo of my mom shortly after learning she had breast cancer. We did not know yet how serious it was but it was a moment I wanted to preserve. I wanted to hold onto the gaze in her eyes, the love in her heart. Somehow this image capture that. It reminds me of the fragility of this journey. It wakens me to the preciousness of our lives.
